The Surprising Secret to Beautiful Containers
Some container gardens are so gorgeous they almost look magical.
The secret to their beauty, however, is no mystery: It's about proper watering. Though it may seem basic, watering requires some finessing. It isn't always obvious how much water your containers need or how often they should be given a drink.
I found some terrific tips and suggestions from garden writer Kathleen Wiese. She explains how to adjust your watering methods in response to influences like heat, wind, the type of container and how long plants have been in the pot. She also describes simple drip systems, and she gives instructions for making your own from a plastic bottle (it's actually quite easy!).

Make Your Garden a Monarch Waystation
If you had the chance to help a butterfly you would, right? Well, now is your chance. Every fall, millions of monarch butterflies make their annual migration from the U.S. and Canada to overwintering sites in Mexico and California. Their journey is long and perilous, so monarchs have long depended on habitat along the way that includes the milkweed and nectar plants they need to refuel. Unfortunately, much of that habitat has been lost in the last decade to development and pesticides. You can help remedy this by joining the Monarch Waystation Program. Or, you can just plant some of the monarch-friendly plants suggested by Monarch Watch in their Waystation instructions.
Potted Petals can get many of the plants listed, so just call with your list.
