Outdoor Play Makes You Smarter
At least that’s the take-home message from this article in the San Jose Mercury News. It’s true that the evidence is stacking up: Humans, especially children, need more time outdoors to keep our brains and our bodies happy and healthy. The article touts that a 20-minute walk in “nature” will boost your attention span and that a room overlooking nature has an impact on impulse control and gratification delay.
Hmm. Sounds like a great reason for more gardens and natural landscaping in our yards, parks, schools and public spaces. It might be time to start prescribing gardens.
